You start your journey here at Free Maths Games by selecting a maths topic.Each topic consists of between 4 and 16 question and answer pairs that you can access in all the games, lessons and tests. Topics are chosen on this 'Topics' page and will remain selected until you return to this page and choose a different one.
Our maths topics for Key Stages 1 and 2 (Years 1 to 6) are designed to follow closely the UK National Curriculum for maths and provide an appropriate degree of difficulty for the given year group. Each topic is located within a certain Category and sub-category. For instance, The topic "4 digit numbers: tens" is in the sub-category "Identify the place value" within the Category "Place value".

A topic is selected at the beginning of a session at Free Maths Games and will be remembered when you move between games or activities. As stated, the maths for each topic is carefully matched to the UK Primary Maths Curriculum. This means that you as a primary pupil should see similar maths problems to those you are seeing at school (if you are at school) for any particular subject. Please let us know if that is not the case.

Click on the "1. Start" button in the top navigation bar - that brings you to this primary level topic selection page. On the topic selection page you will see that the topics are divided up:
Since you are currently within the primary section of Free Maths Games you will see the primary topics. The primary years will have loaded. Choose your year. The broad categories available will load. Click on a category to see the available sub-categories and topics.
For example, if you choose "Year 6", then the category: "Fractions" you will be offered a choice of fraction sub-categories suitable for year 6. Click on each sub-category to view the available topics.
When you click on the name of a topic, the topic will load into the lesson page (once a topic has loaded it will be available for all activities and will not have to be downloaded again) and the lesson start page will be displayed. You can choose to do the lesson or jump immediately to the games using that topic.
