1st grade / Multiplication / Number facts / Repeat additions
Multiplication is a way of quickly adding together equal groups of numbers or things. For example, if you want to add 3 groups of 4, you could write it as 3 x 4. The x symbol means "times" or "multiply".
To find the total number of objects in 3 groups of 4, you can use the repeat addition method. This means you add the same number (in this case the number 4) a certain number of times (in this case, 3 times).
So, to find the total number of objects in 3 groups of 4, you can add 4 three times:
4 + 4 + 4 = 12
So 3 groups of 4 is equal to 12.
Another example is 5 x 2, which means 5 groups of 2. To find the total number of objects in 5 groups of 2, you can add 2 five times:
2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 10
So 5 groups of 2 is equal to 10.
